Charter type: Offshore
The Continental Shelf is deep drop off where the relatively shallow coastal waters (about 150m deep) quickly descend into well over 1000m of depth. Bottom fishing undersea mounts with electric reels can produce blue eye trevalla, blue grenadier, jemfish, and pink ling just to name a few. In late Summer into Autumn mako sharks are in large numbers, as well as albacore tuna.
Swordfish are in their best numbers in Autumn, and are known as an extremely challenging fish to target.
Fishing the shelf is best done in calm sea conditions and under 10 knots of wind speed.
